So You Want to Actually Run Things?
If you've ever watched a business fall apart because of bad planning — slow shipping, sold-out products, chaotic service — and thought, "I could fix that!" then Operations Management might be your calling.
Here's the deal: every company, from Nike to your favorite local restaurant, needs someone to figure out how things actually get done. That's the operations manager. They're the ones making sure the right products exist, in the right place, at the right time — without wasting a ton of money doing it.
Think of it as the behind-the-scenes engine of any business. While marketers are hyping up a product and finance is counting the money, operations are the reason there's even a product to sell. We're talking supply chains, logistics, people, technology, and strategy — all woven together.
Operations Managers answer questions like:
- Why is this process slow, and how do we fix it?
- Where should we source our materials to cut costs without sacrificing quality?
- How do we scale up when demand suddenly spikes?
It's part puzzle-solving, part leadership, part strategy. And the career paths are wide open — consulting, tech, healthcare, sports, e-commerce, and manufacturing. Companies like Amazon, Tesla, and Apple treat their operations talent like gold.
If you like solving real, tangible problems and want a degree that puts you at the center of how the world actually works — this is it.
